After all the rumor, WWE.com has finally confirmed the story that was leaked then removed from their site last Friday: Stone Cold Steve Austin will lead the Class of 2009 into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania weekend.

Let us be among the many who welcome this induction and add that we hope to see a Stone Cold Stunner somewhere in the ceremony…

After the jump is the official statement from WWE.com:

It’s time to raise a glass — of beer, naturally — to the most popular WWE Superstar in history, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

It’s official! The six-time WWE Champion will be inducted into the 2009 WWE Hall of Fame on April 4 in his home state of Texas at Houston’s Toyota Center, the night before WrestleMania XXV. “Stone Cold” is the first Superstar announced for this year’s Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in what promises to be one “Hell Yeah” of an evening.

Congrats Stone Cold!

WWE originally planned for Jim Ross to induct Steve Austin int the Hall of Fame, but Austin requested Ric Flair instead. Officials are not happy with his request since Flair is viewed as an “outsider” and WWE would not like to give him press. Jerry Lawler was in a similar situation two years ago when he requested Memphis announcer Lance Russell, and instead officials wanted William Shatner to induct him.

So who will be tagged with the job? We’ll just have to wait and see.

At the ‘Get Smart’ preview today, The Rock a.k.a “Dwayne Johnson” answered many questions from fans. One such fan was bold enough to ask The Rock whether or not if he will ever return to wrestling, and if he will go with his promise he did at the WWE hall of fame on whether or not he will face John Cena in a match…

All Dwayne Johnson said was that he retired his “The Rock” persona 4 or 5 years ago and that he is done with wrestling and he will not wrestle John Cena. Johnson also stated that he would never make a movie with Stone Cold, but that he respects the Texas Rattlesnake. Finally, he had no clue about the McMahon million dollar give away.

Sounds like Dwayne Johnson is pretty much done with wrestling doesn’t it?

As it turns out, our beloved “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was actually in Florida during Wrestlemania weekend. He arrived in on Thursday, hung out with friends from WWE & TNA throughout the weekend, and even attended the Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday. And if that wasn’t enough, Austin even had an open invitation to attend WrestleMania 24 in the luxury box with the McMahon family, Kevin Nash and others. But interestingly Steve Austin declined the offer.

Why? Austin instead chose to fly home so he could watch WrestleMania 24 from the comfort of his living room.

Austin wanted to enjoy WrestleMania XXIV, especially the Flair vs. Michaels match, without being distracted. He told his old friends that it’s hard to enjoy shows he attends in-person because everyone wants to come up and talk to him. Alas…The Price of being famous i guess.

As some of you may know, there is some serious friction between Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and The WWE right now. Both the WWE’s management and even the top wrestlers. John Cena touched on the issue recently during an interview published in the UK Sun where he asked why Rock couldn’t attend more WWE events.

It seems The Rock has rejected many of The WWE’s invitations to events since he left the company and landed in Hollywood – and that doesn’t sit well with John Cena, Vince McMahon, Triple H or Steve Austin, just to name a few. Everyone feels that Rock should do more to “pay back” the company, and the fans that helped him become a star.

There are a number of people within the WWE who sympathize with Rock’s situation however. Since he has become a hot name in Hollywood, he could be advised to distance himself from pro wrestling. Now that the Rock makes a lot more money with movies than he did with wrestling, he would obviously want to do what takes care of his family best.

From The Texas Rattlesnake’s perspective however, he has said he wishes he was in the physical condition to continue wrestling. So it’s hard for him to understand why someone like Dwayne Johnson wouldn’t want to do more in wrestling. Austin’s lengthy list of injuries probably won’t allow him to wrestle another full-length match. Rock and Austin haven’t stayed in touch with each other over the last few years and there was reportedly some friction between the two at the Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday night.

One source at the WWE mentioned Rock might be returning to the ring at WrestleMania 25, but said that the chances of it happening are pretty slim if for no other reason than his busy filming schedule.

The UK Sun had a good interview with the Texas Rattlesnake a few days ago.

Stone Cold Steve Austin was asked about everything from who should be in the WWE’s Hall of Fame to what he thinks of the Hulkster. You can listen to the full article here, but here’s the highlights:

Of all the people inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, Steve Austin favorites are Jake “The Snake” Roberts and “Macho Man” Randy Savage.

Also of interest, Stone Cold Steve Austin mentioned the possibility of one more match in him: “I take that never say never approach to having a last match. For a while I just said: ‘No, it will never happen’ but who knows? And I’m not saying this to get everybody up. It would have to be the most perfect set up in the whole world and all the stars to align for it to happen. The chances are few and far between but could it? Damn. Maybe” Wouldn’t that be interesting? A surprise appearance by Stone Cold at Wrestlemania 24? We don’t want to start any rumor mills, but why else would the Sun interview Steve Austin? He’s not running for president too is he?

– On Hulk Hogan slamming him: “He’s just a bitter, insecure guy. I give him all the credit in the world, because I’ve watched a lot of his career unfold and the Hulkamania thing was one of the biggest things ever. But believe me I’ve been around the entertainment business since the back end of 1989, and if there’s one thing you’re going to find out it’s that if you’ve got thin skin you’re probably in the wrong business. So there’s not a damn thing Hogan can say to rile me up or charge me up. I’m secure in the career that I’ve had and everything I did. It makes me laugh when he’s got to do that, because I really think it makes him look like a chump.”
